Immigration has always been a defining feature of the United States — from the millions who arrived at Ellis Island a century ago to the diverse newcomers of today. While the “melting pot” remains a powerful image, the reality of immigration has never been simple. In the past, people came in search of freedom, safety, and opportunity, but they also faced challenges such as discrimination, hard work, and adapting to a new culture.
Today, immigration is still one of the most discussed and debated issues in U.S. politics. Questions about border security, refugee protection, and the role of immigrants in the economy are at the center of public conversation. Recent political changes have intensified the country's division on this issue.

This presentation will explore how immigration has shaped the United States over time and why it continues to influence politics, culture, and daily life. We will look at the hopes and challenges faced by new arrivals, the role of diversity in American identity, and how recent laws, political debates, and global events are changing the immigration landscape.
